Storming the Castle...

On our third day in London, we hopped a regional train, and headed to Windsor. We had missed Her Majesty in Buckingham Palace, and she was absent from Windsor Castle as well. (The Queen prefers her private residence at Balmoral Castle in Scotland...so maybe she was there.)

I had seen the outside of the Castle back in '97 when Ashish and I stopped on our drive to Wales. But in spite of the rain clouds, Jeff was right to write this on our limited English itinerary. The Castle has evolved over 900 years.

They don't allow photography inside the Castle, so my images are limited to some basic shots of the grounds and the Albert Memorial Chapel.

The better title would be "Have fun storming the castle" from Princess Bride.

So what's their reason for no photos inside the castle? Don't want the terrorists to know the castle's weak spots?

We ran across many justifications for the "no photo" policy, but in the case of Windsor Castle, I think it was purely crowd control. Windor is insanely popular, and folks already move slowly through tight rooms. Having people slow down to take the perfect picture (especially the ones where the photographer holds up traffic to take a picture with nobody in it) would make it unbearable.

OMG, does it have a moat??? I'd never live in a castle without a moat!
